Trash/Recycling Info


The weekly trash and recycling pickup within the Town of Camillus is provided by Superior Waste.  Only typical household waste will be collected.  Trash must be out on time for pickup, they are not able to return to homes that miss the pickup.  If you have service questions or need to make special arrangements for an item pickup, please call Superior Waste at 475-4416.  If you have service issues, please contact the Supervisor's Office at 488-1335.

TRASH HOLIDAYS
For some holidays, trash and recycling pickup will be delayed one day from the date of the holiday through the remainder of the week.  Please refer to the Around Town Newsletter for updated information on trash & recycling holidays.

If a holiday is not listed, trash pick will remain on regular schedule that week!!


BASIC GUIDELINES

    • 10 bags of basic household rubbish

    • 1 large item (mattress, armchair, standard couch) IF PREVIOUSLY ARRANGED WITH SUPERIOR WASTE.

    • Any type of trash bags is acceptable (clear, white, dark, etc.)

    • During snow season, the cans/bins will be left in the driveway unless the homeowner clears an area in the yard for them. Superior will do their best to set them back in their original place (but cannot guarantee they won’t be subsequently affected by wind, plows, etc.).

    • Trash must be available for pickup by 6:00 a.m.


FREQUENTLY QUESTIONED ITEMS

  • Books-Hardcover: 
    May be placed in the weekly trash, not the recycle bin.  Alternately, some local libraries may accept them or they can be recycled through OCRRA’s annual program.
     
  • Books-Paperback: 
    Should be placed in the recycling bin.

  • Carpeting:  
    Will only be picked up by prior arrangement with Superior Waste.  It must be cut into 3’ x 3’ sections and bound in manageable rolls/bundles for pickup; one room’s worth per week is allowable (equates to approximately 10-12 rolls/bundles).

  • Computers: 
    OCRAA offers four drop off days per year for computer equipment recycling.

  • Construction Debris (wood, brick, etc.):
    Will not be picked up with the weekly trash but may be take to the Landfill.

  • Fruit: 
    A few bags of fallen tree fruit gathered from yards may be placed in the weekly trash; excessive amounts will not be taken

  • Furniture (dressers, tables, etc.): 
    Can be put out for pickup with the weekly trash if left in their original form.  Dismantled or destroyed furniture will not be picked up.

  • Furniture-Upholstered: 
    Upholstered furniture may be picked up if prior arrangements are made with Superior Waste.  Furniture with metal (i.e. recliners or sleeper sofas) may be picked up for an additional fee.  Contact Superior Waste for more information.

 

  • Lawn Furniture-Wooden: 
    No picnic tables, painted, or pressure treated wood lawn furniture will be picked up.

  • Lawn Furniture-Aluminum: 
    Standard aluminum frame/plastic webbing type lawn furniture will be picked up.

  • Mattresses/Box Springs: 
    May be included in weekly trash if prior arrangements are made with Superior Waste.  Only wood framed box springs will be taken.  Metal framed box springs will not be picked up but can be disposed of through OCCRA Transfer Stations.

  • Scrap Metal
    No scrap or other metal will be picked up.  Some items may be eligible for pickup by the Highway Department if prior arrangements are made.

  • Microwaves: 
    Will be picked up by prior arrangement with Superior Waste – a $10 surcharge applies.

  • Paint Cans:  
    Can be put out for pickup with the weekly trash only if the paint is dry and hardened and the lid has been removed from the can.

  • Pools/Pool Liners & Covers:
    Pools will not be picked up.  Solar covers and liners will be picked up if prior arrangements are made with Superior Waste.

  • Pumpkins:  
    Will be picked up if they are placed in or next to the trash receptacle (will not be retrieved from yard waste piles).  Maximum of two per week.

  • Recyclable Bins-destroyed: 
    Will be picked up only if there is a note on it requesting Superior Waste to do so.

  • Styrofoam: 
    Should be placed in the regular trash; it is not recyclable.

  • Televisions:
    Cannot be picked up.  Click here for information from OCCRA on recycling televisions.

  • Walnuts:
    Fallen walnuts gathered from yard will not be picked up
